A total of 59,000 children in Kisoro district are set to be immunized for Polio in a second phase of a country wide campaign.
Kisoro District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Steven Nsabiyumva says, the second campaign will start on Friday 4th November 2022 and end on Monday 7th November 2022.
According to Dr. Nsabiyumva, the campaign will target children from age of 0 to 5 years.
The Polio campaign comes days after a six-day vaccination campaign for Measles Rubella. The data for this campaign was not readily available by Press time.
Dr. Nsabiyumva says he is confident the second phase of the Polio campaign will move on smoothly and commended the communities in Kisoro for their positive participation in the first round.

Kisoro district managed to attain 107% coverage during the first round of Polio house to house vaccination, earlier this year.
He however noted that one of the schools belonging to the Adventist Church in Chahi refused to allow the children to be immunized, prompting the use of security to force the teachers to release the children.
“This is a caution to parents and teachers, the children belong to Government and if anyone tries to fight the vaccination campaign is breaking the law”, Nsabiyumva explained
Health workers were also trained on how to manage the Polio vials effectively.
The health workers were urged not to waste or recklessly dispose of them but instead return the used and the unused, back to the district headquarters, without fail.
Kisoro district has a total of 42 health facilities but only six boast of an incinerator. These include Rubuguri HCIV, Clare Nsenga, Busanza HCIV, Kisoro Hospital, Chahafi HCIV and Nyakabande HC II
Ministry of Health Central Supervisor Enock Kyakunzire said the Government is very strict about the vial count and has deployed Vaccine Accountability Monitors to ensure no vial is lost in the campaign.
