The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Rtd. Captain Peter Mugisha has said more than 6000 Congolese refugees have ended Uganda via Bunagana and more are expected to come.
According to Mugisha, Uganda will not impose any restrictions on anyone seeking to flee from danger.
A security meeting between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo earlier today has revealed and confirmed that M23 rebel group is responsible for today’s events.
Ugandan freelance Journalist Ignatius Bahizi @bahizi_i has since tweeted that, “M23 rebels vow to capture the entire Rutshuru territory in North Kuvu #DRC. A rebel commander says they intend to capture Bunagana town bordering Uganda today, he was speaking from Cyengerero 4Kms to the border. They’re said to have seized #FARDC HQs of Tshanzu& took weapons”.
Kisoro RDC Peter Mugisha says Congolese security forces are doing everything in their power to return normalcy to the region that has been affected.
According to Mugisha, the Uganda People’s Defense forces have been deployed along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, however it will not interfere with matters of another Sovereign state.
Attempts to get a comment from the Congolese national forces or M23 are still futile.
Media Analyst Andrew Agaba @Andruvok says, “The influx of Refugees happens as The Democratic Republic of Congo is all set to be admitted as the 7th member of the East African Community”.
Arrangements are in place for the Extraordinary Heads of State Summit on March 29, 2022, when #DRC is formally welcomed in a virtual session
