She noted that before learning was interrupted by Covid-19 and the prolonged lock downs, pupils especially in Primary 1 and 2 would have nowhere to sit during lessons.

“A desk in Primary 1 and 2 classes will often have as many as five pupils at all times and yet sometimes the pupils can be as many as eight, forcing some to sit down on the floor”, Rev. Sr. Kyomukama explained.

She further notes that the school has maintained 9 private teachers alongside 19 others who are on Government payroll.

The School’s student population currently stands at 1,249.

The Chairman Board of Governor Mutolere Primary School who is also doubles as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Mr. Kwizera George commended the support from Rotary Club and encouraged them to keep doing such noble acts.

The contributions come at a time when Government, through the Ministry of Education and Sports is preparing to fully reopen all schools on January 10th 2022.

Nyakabande LCIII chairperson Ntawera Funi said the contribution of desks will help amplify the Standard Operating Procedures of Covid- 19 including social distancing which is still very important since Country is in the wake of a new wave which could negatively impact young learners.

Rotary Club Speaks Out

The President of Rotary club for Mgahinga- Kisoro Jackie Bagainizi appreciated the collaborative efforts by both clubs to ensure a worthwhile objective of supporting young learners is achieved.

She noted that  Rotary Club of Kisoro and Ibanda are committed to serving all people and hopes to achieve more in the following year.

The club also visited Kisoro Hopsital where they handed over an Ultra Sound Machine to the Maternity ward.

Mrs. Bagainizi explained that the Ultra Sound Machine is vital equipment in maternal and child health care.

She noted that many pregnant mothers have been leaving the hospital premises to seek the service which is both time consuming and costly however with the introduction of the machine at the hospital, those inconveniences will become a thing of the past.

Ibanda Rotary club President Lawrence Muchunguzi said Mutolere Primary School will continue to receive support from both clubs.

He called for meaningful living that can have a positive impact on the communities we serve.

A former pupil at Mutolere Primary School Dr. Munyiga Felian, in a very nostalgic address urged young people to develop hearts of service. He noted that solutions lay in our hands but people need to work towards developing themselves and developing their communities.
