"The trick they are using is to order some food and accompany it with a beer, others simply ask for the disposable coffee cups and drink alcohol. This is very dangerous and goes against the Covid 19 guidelines", Ndikumwami said.

Bars remain closed until further notice.

While addressing the district Covid 19 task force, the deputy Resident district commissioner Dan Ndikumwami said drinking alcohol across the district never stopped at any one time.

Ndikumwami said people with financial means now go to coffee shops and restaurants around the district, at all hours of the day and night and drink alcohol.

“The trick they are using is to order some food and accompany it with a beer, others simply ask for the disposable coffee cups and drink alcohol. This is very dangerous and goes against the Covid 19 guidelines”, Ndikumwami said.

He noted that those with less financial means simply go to ordinary shops that sell general household items and drink from there under the guise of buying things for home.

Enturire and Bushera are among the favorite drinks in Kisoro that encourage gatherings

Ndikumwami noted that if this behavior is not curtailed soon, these retail shops, coffee shops and restaurants will become the super spreaders of Covid 19.

“We are prepared to arrest anyone found in any of these establishments found drinking alcohol. We realize drinking is not a sin but if people continue to gather in these places, we shall be in trouble, Ndikumwami explained.
