Some of the leading causes are debts and domestic violence.
Kigezi – A 40 year old woman was on Tuesday at around 4:00 pm found dead after hanging herself in her house in Chahafi town council, Kisoro district.
The deceased has been identified as Nyiramutuzo peace, a resident of Kabami village.
The motive of taking her life is not yet known.
This comes after a 16 year old boy ended his life by throwing himself into a speeding vehicle in Busaro village, Muganza parish in Chahi sub county on Thursday.
It was reportedly after being insulted by his parents, accusing him of stealing a phone battery.
Suicide cases rise in Kigezi
This means that five people have committed suicide by hanging in Greater Kabale in less than two weeks. The latest suicide victim is John Rwantangare, a resident of Rwabarera village of Kitojo Parish in Bubare Sub County in Rubanda District.
He committed suicide yesterday just four days after he was rescued from ending his life on Friday last week. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says the deceased used a sharp object to cut his throat last week.
Three days ago, John Bosco Twinomujuni, a Boda boda cyclist from Lower Bugongi in Northern Division Kabale Municipality also used a bed sheet to end his life for unknown reasons.
On February 17, Gilbert Byaruhanga, the Ruhita Cell Defense Secretary in Rushaki Parish in Southern Division in Kabale Municipality also ended his life when he used an electric cable to hang himself in his bathroom.
Byaruhanga locked up himself in his house to stop his wife and children from disrupting him. According to sources, Byaruhanga ended his life due to accumulated debts resulting from an accident, in which his vehicle knocked dead a pedestrian and critically injured another.
He reportedly acquired loans from moneylenders to compensate families of the accident victims but couldn’t pay fines to recover his car from Kabale Police Station even after surrendering his house as collateral to a money lender.
Woman dies with baby on the back
On February 1, two bodies of a mother and her child were found floating on the shores of Lake Mulehe, Nyundo Sub-County, Kisoro district.
Police noted that the woman had a mental illness problem, while other sources noted that it could have been a result of constant domestic violence.
