Police blames the accident on speeding and lack of headlights.

Police in Kisoro District have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run road crash that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Uwayezu Urban, a resident of Nyakabande Village in Gisorora Parish, Nyakabande Sub-county. The incident occurred on April 7, 2026, at around 6:40 a.m. at Kanyabukungu Village along the Kisoro–Kabale highway.

According to police report, the victim was allegedly knocked by an unidentified motor vehicle while walking as a pedestrian. He died instantly at the scene.

Officers from Kisoro Police visited the scene, documented evidence, and drew a sketch plan to aid investigations. The body of the deceased was later conveyed to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene and remains unknown. Police have since appealed to the public for any information that could help identify and arrest the suspect.

“We urge anyone with information that can lead to the identification of the vehicle involved to cooperate with police so that the culprit is brought to book,” said ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson.

ASP Elly Maate added that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
