Christians in Muhabura Diocese have been urged to renew their faith by placing their full trust in Jesus Christ as they celebrate Easter.
The call was made by Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse during the Easter Sunday service held at St. Andrew’s Seseme Cathedral in Kisoro.
While delivering his sermon, Bishop Mbitse emphasized the importance of spiritual renewal, urging believers to open their hearts and embrace a transformed life through Christ. He noted that the resurrection of Jesus is not only a historical event but also a personal call for Christians to live renewed and faithful lives.
The bishop expressed concern over a growing tendency among some believers to rely on personal achievements and wealth, warning that such trust is misplaced. He cautioned that without Christ, human efforts and possessions hold no lasting value, stressing that faith should remain the foundation of every believer’s life.
Bishop Mbitse also called for unity, cooperation, and love among Christians, especially during the Easter season. He urged the congregation to use the period as a time for reflection and strengthening relationships rather than engaging in wrongdoing. He further warned against using the celebrations as an excuse for immoral behavior, encouraging believers to uphold Christian values and demonstrate discipline during the festive period.
The Easter message comes at a time when Christians around the world commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a cornerstone of the Christian faith symbolizing hope, renewal, and victory over sin and death.
Meanwhile, at Rutare Church of Uganda in Chahi Sub-county, lay reader Gakwerere Hillary cautioned Christians to be vigilant against scammers posing as religious sisters with intentions of defrauding unsuspecting people. He noted that several individuals have already fallen victim to such fraudsters and urged the public to remain alert.
What other Church leaders say
At St. Peter’s Gisoro Catholic Parish, Christians gathered in joy to celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. During the second Mass led by Rev. Fr. Alphonse Mbabazi, believers were encouraged to remain steadfast in their faith, just as Jesus remained strong during His suffering.
Fr. Mbabazi called upon Christians to emulate Mary Magdalene, who woke up early to visit the tomb as a sign of their deep love and devotion to Jesus. He observed that in today’s world, many people face challenges alone and are often neglected by friends and relatives, emphasizing that true faith requires commitment and sacrifice.
He further urged Christians to have unwavering faith, unlike Thomas who doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ, stressing the importance of believing without seeing. Fr. Mbabazi also encouraged believers to practice forgiveness and engage in acts of charity, noting that unity and love among Christians can foster happiness and renewed life.
