Police in Kabale district have arrested six women for allegedly selling adulterated food.
Adulterated food is food mixed with something else that changes its original state to poor quality or a form that is dangerous for human consumption.
Those arrested are Anjela Kyarimpa of 42 years, -Mary Tushabe aged 29, Doris Ndyamuhaki of 25 years, Constance Kukundakwe aged 26, Clare Amutuhire and Tumwebaze all residents of Kabale municipality.
They were arrested Thursday evening from Kabale Central market red-handed selling small pieces of fake fried fresh fish.
They get a fish bone, add cassava flour or wheat flour on top and it looks like dried fried fish, and sell it 500 shillings per piece.
However, some of their customers reported that when prepared, it becomes like porridge.
The Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate told Voice of Muhabura that the operation will continue to arrest all those involved in the racket so that are charged accordingly.
The case has been registered at Kabale Police Station under case file number SD 42/25/02/2021.
