Residents hailing from Nyarutembe Parish in Nyabwishenya sub county have decided to boycott 2020/2021 general elections unless their parish is elevated into a sub county belonging to Bufumbira North constituency.
While holding an extra ordinary parish council meeting at sub county head quarters today, residents from villages of Bitare, Kigezi, Muko, Busanani, Kibyioni, Shunga and Nyarutemebe in Nyarutembe sub county vowed not to belong to the newly created Bukimbiri County because they have no relationship with Bakimbiri.
They noted that they have for a long been demanding for elevation of their parish to a sub county to gain independence but in vain because leaders do not care about their parish status quo.
The Nyarutemebe Parish LC2 chairperson, Semahoro Sunday Dan says that the parish leadership has wrote several letters to the sub county leaders but the council always ignore them a reason to why Nyarutemebe cannot allow to be under Bukimbiri county adding that they are segregated by Bakimbiri .
He however asked residents to be hopeful of being part of Bufumbira north because if government fails to fulfill the will of the people court will be used.
The former LC3 Chairperson for Nyabwishenya sub county, Baruhire John said that it’s unfortunate to put his grand children in Bukimbiri County yet they are not attached to it. He asked them to follow him by not voting in the forthcoming elections apart from LC1 and LC2 chairpersons.
Bishaka Bizoza Evary a senior resident and retired civil servant reassured residents that the bad leaders blocking Nyarutemebe’s will to be in Bufumbira north will be judged from courts of law.
The LC5 woman Councilor for Kirundo and Nyabwishenya sub counties, Norah Mugabe asked all residents from the seven villages of Nyarutembe to persist until they get what they deserve.
Bukimbiri county is among the 41 counties which the parliament recently approved.
