The Kisoro district Assistant DHO Mr. Nick Muneza has called public accusations on failure to report to the national Covid-19 task force baseless and lack of information by the accusers.
On Saturday 19th June 2021 in Ikimeza program at voice of Muhabura hosted by Dennis Nsenga, Mr. Mbereyinka Bernard a renowned researcher criticized the Kisoro district health team for alleged failure to report to the national task force daily.
Mbereyinka based his allegations on the Friday 18th June 2021 presidential address where Kisoro district did not show case in the top 20 most covid-19 hit districts in the country yet statistics indicated that it was among. He says that Kisoro stands to lose relief aid in case any for the most hit areas.
“Our district might lose Covid-19 relief, in case government or any other non-Governmental organization would wish to fund most hit districts yet Kisoro is badly off in terms of covid-19 infections,” Bernad says.
In the same program, Kazimiri Wilson the LCV councilor Chahi subcounty and the Speaker Kisoro district called upon the covid-19 task force to always submit the reports in time for better planning.
In a phone interview with Voice of Muhabura on Sunday morning, Nick Muneza the Assistant DHO Kisoro district said that such allegations are baseless. Nick says that People saying that they do not report lack information on the way health officers do their work.
“No, we do report, those saying we do not report lack Information on how we work.” Nick referring to accusers.
He adds that as the medical team, they do daily and timely reporting to the national task force.
“You have asked for information, have I not given you, and we usually give you, so how can we fail to report to the national task force.” Nick wonders.
On why Kisoro district COVID-19 results never showcased in the presidential address; Nick clarified that most districts in south western Uganda were affected citing Kabale, Kanungu, Rukungiri and Rukiga districts.
According to Nick, PCR test results were considered yet Kisoro district is currently using rapid diagnostic test.
“Considering the President’s address, only PCR (polymerase chain reaction)- test results were used yet Kisoro district is currently using RDT – (rapid diagnostic test).” Nick Clarifies.
He called upon the public to disregard such allegations and rather focus on the fight against the pandemic that has hit the country hard.
By the time of filing this story Covid-19 cases in Kisoro district were 372.
