The Kisoro district Speaker Amos Hakizimana has said having a Mufumbira like Robert Mukiza as the executive director of Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) will help boost development in the region.
The comments were made earlier this week during a council session where the district councilors agreed to have land located in Nyarubuye- Bunagana titled for the specific use of setting up an Industrial Park.
Speaker Hakizimana reminded the council that Robert Mukiza’s nomination was timely because on the grand scale of development, Kisoro district had been sidelined.
He noted that some of the brave district Councilorsmanaged to make the right kind of noise that put pressure on the central Government to remember Kisoro district, through the appointment of Robert Mukiza.
Back in November 2020, a section of youths in Kisoro district led by Southern division councilor Agaba James expressed their dissatisfaction towards the central government for not equitably sharing the national cake in all districts.
They also accused President Museveni of delaying to approve the appointment of Robert Mukiza as the director general of the Uganda Investments authority.
It was in early 2021, when the people of Kisoro celebrated the appointment of Robert Mukiza who eventually took office on July 1st 2021.
The district Speaker also commended the Kisoro district Chairman Abel Bizimana and other residents in Kisoro district who pushed hard to ensure that Mukiza Robert gets appointed.
He also noted that having Mukiza as the director general of the Uganda Investments authority will soften the desire for Kisoro to have an industrial park set in Rukundo town council’s Kibaya Land and this will spur development in the district.
Prior to joining the UIA, Mr. Mukiza was Deputy Director for the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Representative to Ethiopia, the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
