The Kisoro district Health Officer (DHO) has criticized the act by Ubuntu members of storing the donated oxygen cylinders at Kisoro district headquarters awaiting the Covid-19 task force that sits every Wednesday saying that the cylinders will not be serving their Purpose of saving lives.
Speaking to Voice of Muhabura shortly after receiving an oxygen cylinder from the Lions club of Kisoro on Saturday 17th July 2021, Dr. Stephen said that the need for Ubuntu to donate is to save lives not mere publicity.
In his own view, the cylinders would have been kept at Kisoro hospital for easy access in case they are needed by patients.
Adding her Voice, the Assistant District Health Officer Kisoro district Dusabe Anne said that it will be difficult to access the cylinders in case of an emergency since it is a weekend. She says that the access protocol maybe too long yet they would easily be accessible at the hospital.
Dr. Atwine John Bosco the In charge of Kisoro hospital Covid-19 treatment unit asked Ubuntu management to reconsider their decision of storing the oxygen cylinders up to Wednesday. He says though Kisoro hospital is not in dire need by now, the situation may change anytime.
He however adds that since it is their decision then as medical workers, they have to wait until cylinders are officially handed over.
The Ubuntu group representative in Kisoro district Mr. Nkunda Hatega Vega promised to deliver the cylinders to the hospital in case of an emergency. He said they will be kept at the district headquarter stores waiting for an official handover to the district task force that sits every Wednesday.
The Seven Oxygen cylinders Purchased by Ubuntu group have reached Kisoro district and are currently stored at the district headquarters.
