The Kisoro Municipal Mayor Richard Ndyana has cautioned Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party members in Kisoro district against ‘early politicking’ by promising to buy a garbage truck on behalf of Government.
Ndyana explained that he does not get his orders from FDC but from the fountain of Honor, H.E Yoweri Museveni, who is the national chairman of the ruling party, NRM.
The comments come following a weekend meeting organized by the leadership of FDC in Kisoro to find a way of raising funds to purchase a garbage truck for the municipality that has failed to collect garbage.
During the meeting, the leaders of FDC say their request to hold a fundraiser in the district was approved the district LCV chairperson and the district Police Commander.
Owen Ahimbisibwe, FDC party General Secretary in Kisoro says many people have come forward expressing interest in offering support to buy a garbage truck for the municipality.
Ahimbisibwe says the Municipal mayor has refused to endorse their request to hold a fundraiser which does not make sense because the issue of garbage in the town needs to be given immediate attention.
FDC party chairman in Kisoro Vincent Mushakamba said people with selfish interests are preventing the rest of the community from benefitting from the goodwill of concerned people who have the capacity to help.
Authorities in Kisoro Municipality have in recent months, admitted to failing to collect both degradable and non- degradable garbage because of the mechanical breakdown of their available trucks.
Several social media groups in Kisoro have questioned the municipal leadership’s capacity to deliver services to the people.
Mayor Ndyana says the Government promised to deliver a garbage truck and this will require patience from the residents.
