Murora Sub County has been categorized as Kisoro’s top hot spot for covid-19 after recording 70 cases cumulatively from 1st June 2021 followed by Rubuguri town council with 65 cases.
According to statistical information that was reported before the Kisoro district covid-19 task force today, the assistant district health office in charge of disease surveillance reports that Murora sub county has ignored the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Speaking to voice of Muhabura, the Kisoro Deputy resident district Commissioner Ndikumwami Daniel said that the issue was tabled before the district task force and enforcement will begin with immediate effect.
He added that Busanza Sub County has 63 cases; Southern division 58, central division 52, and Nyakabande Sub County 51 complete the top five sub counties with most cases of covid-19 infections. Sub counties with fewest covid-19 infections in the same period include; Nyundo 8, Kanaba 7, Nyabwishenya 3 and Kirundo 2.
Ndikumwami identified gatherings on market days and in bars as the most common sources of infections in the said areas. He asked people to comply with the covid-19 guidelines because security has been ordered to arrest all covid-19 guidelines defaulters.
Meanwhile, he says that Motorcyclists are another source of infections and transmissions. He says that leniency against defaulters has ended and whoever gets arrested will be imprisoned for two months.
Speaking to voice of Muhabura in a phone interview, the Kisoro district assistant health officer, In charge of disease surveillance, Nick Muneza said that the statistics were recorded starting from 1st June 2021 to 12th July 2021. He urged people from Murora and Rubuguri to adhere to SOPs because it is the only way to avoid covid-19 transmission.
