Matooke sellers in Kisoro district have today raised concerns over
their business after they got stuck with all their stock at Shaza
Playground being relocated from Gatimba market.
Both Matooke traders have been doing their businesses in Gatimba
market or Rusiza market but the move by the Municipal Covid-19 task
force to enable social distance in both markets made them to create a
new marker place for only matooke.
All Matooke trucks were parked at Shaza playground near Shaza
health center III facility with few clients appearing at the place.
Speaking to voice of Muhabura, Muhawe Juliet a whole seller of
matooke from Mbarara district expressed her dissatisfaction over
Municipal’s decision to relocate them because they are making a lot
of losses due to lack buyers.

Muhawe added that the cost of transport is high and limited market
makes them suffer more losses which may result into severe suffering
in the near future due to poverty.
Nyiransaba Gloria who sells matooke in large quantities said that
Shaaza playground is pretty enough to accommodate more than one
business but putting only Matooke will not favor most clients.

Meanwhile, retailers who spoke to voice of Muhabura said that they
refused to purchase matooke for retailing because they lacked
demand for matooke due to relocation from famous Gatimba Market.
