The Bishop of Kabale diocese Rt. Rev. Bishop Callistus Rubaramira is set to open a new Catholic parish of Nyagisozi on 31st of October, 2021, according to the dean of Mutolere deanery Rev.Fr John Bazimenyera.
Fr. Bazimenyera said the function that will be presided over by Bishop Rubaramira will see two new priests being installed at the new parish.
He further noted that despite the covid-19 pandemic, the Christian faith has remained strong and the diocese decided that due to the growing population in the area, a new parish will boast the already existing facilities including the schools and health facilities.
“We do not live only by bread but also by faith and spiritual matters need to be given priority that is why we have decided that a new parish in the area will help strengthen Christians and this will positively impact on the lives of our people”, Fr. Bazimenyera explained.
He further noted that Christians formerly had to travel long distances to go for prayers but now it will reduce the burden.
Father Bazimenyera said explained that the function will be held scientifically in the playground at Nyagisozi Catholic Church.
He emphasizes that all people who will attend must observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to avoid the spread of corona virus disease.
Nyagisozi has been a Eucharistic center under Kinanira parish and the creation of Nyagisozi parish will bring the total number of catholic parishes in Kisoro to seven.
Relatedly, Rev.Fr Bazimenyera revealed that the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) function will be held later this year, on the 7th November, 2021.
BAAF is an annual function where the Bishop collects money to fund a certain Catholic Church project. Bazimenyera noted that the funds that were collected in previous years were used to build centenary bank buildings in Kabale and Kisoro.
He further explained that this year’s BAAF fundraiser will focus on building a building a centenary bank in Rukungiri because the bank is operating in a rented house.
Father Francis Havugimana of Kinanira parish asked all well-wishers to contribute towards the well-being of the new parish.
