The Resident Judge at Kabale High Court is set to handle a total of 43 capital criminal cases at Kisoro Chief Magistrate court in Kisoro district on June 5th, 2023, according to His Worship Kenneth Komakech.
Kisoro Chief Magistrate Kenneth Komakech made the revelation today during a meeting with the media at his office.
His Worship Komakech revealed that following a number of meetings with various stakeholders in the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Uganda Police, Prisons, lawyers and Court assessors, adequate preparations have been made to ensure the landmark High court sitting in Kisoro takes place as Scheduled.
Among the 43 cases expected to be unloaded in June include high profile murder case of an Indian businessman who was gunned down by a Police officer last year.

His Worship Komakech said cases of aggravated robbery, rape and defilement will appear before the resident Judge.
He noted that it is imperative that Justice is not only served but is also seen to be served by the communities affected by criminals.
According to Komakech, 80% of cases that appear before the High Court of Kabale are criminal cases that originate from Kisoro district.
“When the law deems fit to put criminals away for a long time, the affected people in Kisoro do not always get the information from the court proceedings which is not effective in sensitizing the masses against committing crimes”, Komakech explained.
Komakech noted that once the rehabilitated persons return to their communities it is easy for them to lie that they have been working in faraway places like Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“The irony is that they never return home with any money. We need to show the public that the judicial system can be trusted and affected people can get justice, Komakech added.
The decision for High Court of Kabale to sit at the Kisoro Chief Magistrates Court follows a request from the Kisoro district LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana.
On March 18th, 2023, during a Courtesy visit to Kisoro Justice Emokor Samuel received a request from the district LCV chairperson and the Resident State Attorney (RSA) Ainomugisha Christopher to have a high court sitting in Kisoro to help curb the growing levels of criminality in the district.
