The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajji Shafiq Sekandi and the Kisoro Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Hajji Badru Mayanja have engaged the Ministry of Education and Sports, through writing to find out why the only Government Technical Institute in the district is on the verge of Collapse.
Earlier this week, students at Kisoro Technical Institute in Nyakabande Sub County stormed the Office of the RDC and CAO with a 30-point presentation on the Institute’s weaknesses that have affected their ability to continue learning.

The students who took a diplomatic approach of dialogue said if their concerns are not addressed quickly, then they will have no choice but to strike.
Among the key issues raised in their petition include lack of sanitation in the school and latrines, no classroom benches, no bulbs in the classroom, security lights do not function, and the dormitories are dilapidated and can no longer be used by human beings.
Sekandi, accompanied by members of Security, the Chief Administrative Officer and the District Education Officer visited the Institute premises and confirmed the students’ complaints.
It was also observed that the teachers themselves are not in good terms with the school administrators.
He revealed that the district has since written to the Ministry of Education and Sports to consider overhauling the entire school.
“This will include working on the infrastructure in the institute as well as changing the administration which has failed to manage the institute.
Sekandi said the Institute receives 50 Million Ugandan Shillings every term, under the capitation grant however it is difficult to determine where the money has been spent.
“We are also requesting for an internal audit of the Institute’s financial dealings to determine who should be held responsible for the school’s failure”, Sekandi said.
He commended the students for remaining calm and promised that the quality of education would be improved to meet the required standard.
