COVID 19: Kisoro district Headquarters disinfected with Chlorine
Administrative work at the Kisoro district headquarters today came to a standstill after the health department took the initiative to spray all the offices in a bid to reduce the spread of Corona Virus.
The Kisoro district Health Inspector Dismas Birungi said it was recommended during the last district COVID 19 task force meeting that the administrative offices be disinfected in order to reduce the spread of COVID 19.
According to Birungi, a total of 80 liters of Chlorine was used to cover the entire district offices. The exercise lasted three hours.
“The essential district workers who have to come into the office have been advised to work from home in order to allow the Chlorine to do its job. It also prevents any of the workers from negatively affecting their health, “Birungi said.
One of the health inspectors identified as Joackim Bwambale said disinfecting the offices will go a long way to preventing easy transmission of the deadly virus.
“The district offices are constantly receiving different people seeking assistance for various problems therefore it can be a prime location to contract the virus. It is also important to remember that the virus can remain on surfaces for between three to four days therefore fumigation was the most logical option, said Bwambale.
The assistant Chief Administrative Officer Rita Byiringo said the personnel at the district have been reduced to 10% which has helped reduce the foot traffic at the district.
Byiringo noted that disinfecting of Government offices has been taking place in other parts of the country but this is the first time for Kisoro district.
She further recommended that the disinfecting of all Government premises become more regular and consistent.
Several district workers have been diagnosed with COVID 19 and are said to be recovering under the home care management system.
