Chaos in Nyakinama as three women are accused of witchcraft

Kisoro – There has been chaos in Nyabitare village, Rwaramba parish in Nyakinama Sub County this afternoon as police dispersed angry residents wanted to lynch 3 women accused of witchcraft.

It all started when the women from Nyabitare village and neighbouring areas convened a meeting to address the witchcraft rumours, but some residents became angered and wanted to beat the accused. Two of the accused women have been identified as Mahoro and Busingye, while the third one remained unknown to the media by press time.

One Police officer from Nyakinama Sub County, accompanied by one recently recruited Special Police Constable are said to have arrived at the venue to disperse the rowdy residents, only to be overpowered.

It is at that point when the armed police officer started shooting in the air to disperse them, but failed as they continued attacking the accused women.

By press time, there had been enforcement from Kisoro Central Police Station, but only one injured victim of the three women had been saved by police, while the rest were still unaccounted for by media.

The police officer was also seen injured and bleeding.
