Kisoro district leadership has expressed confidence in pulling development to the areas of Bunagana and Nyarubuye Sub counties after agreeing to offer substantial Council land to Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) that will be used to set up an industrial park.
The Industrial park, which is one of the Presidential Pledges by President Museveni during the recently concluded general elections will soon be realized after the district council, yesterday resolved to approving the titling of Kibaya Land in Rukundo Town Council, formerly in Nyarubuye Sub County, after Uganda Investment Authority declared interest in developing a state of the art industrial park.
During the proceedings, District Speaker Amos Hakizimana in his opening remarks said, the council needs to approve the land for use as an industrial park.
“We need to pass a resolution on the land in Nyarubuye to pave the way for an industrial park.” Hakizimana said
While welcoming the Speaker’s remarks, Chahi Sub County Councilor Kazimiri Wilson urged the house to grab the opportunity as quickly as possible because such investments can change the lives of people living and working in Kisoro district.
Kisoro district Chairperson Abel Bizimana informed the honorable house that Kisoro district had been excluded in the Industrial park plan but thankfully, Dr. Robert Mukiza, a Mufumbira and the executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority offered strong assurances that Kisoro district will also benefit.
“I want to let you know that other Industrial Parks were put in the gazette, I went to see Dr. Mukiza Robert who promised to take it upon himself to see that industrial park begins from Kisoro district,” said an excited Bizimana.
He continued to say that Dr. Mukiza gave him a condition of Kisoro district council passing a resolution allowing Uganda Investment Authority to title Kibaya land in its names to allow uniformity in the way of performing investment duties.
Councilors Approve the Proposal
The Nyakabande and Kanaba Sub Counties Female Councilor Nyirabuntu Florence Nkuranga and the Rukundo Town Council seconded the motion.
“We urgently need this and the earlier the better, “Florence before seconding.
Southern division Councilor for Kisoro Municipality Agaba James said the district leaders need to be more cautious willing dealing with central Government because sometimes they promise hot air.
He cited the example of Rwivovo land in Nyakabande Sub County where the ministry of education and sports titled the land to develop Kale Memorial Institute of Science and Technology which was gazetted back in 2017 by President Museveni and has since become a nightmare to the People of Kisoro.
Speaking to Voice of Muhabura, the Councilor representing Bunagana Town council Kwizera Innocent said that the land to be titled is in the two Sub counties of Nyarubuye and Bunagana Town Council.
He said that he has addressed the issue to the Speaker and the district Chairperson and they have agreed to solve the matter.
An Industrial Park in Bunagana would mean great prospects for Business with the Democratic Republic of Congo creating employment opportunities, increasing tax collection and bring more visible awareness to the district of Kisoro as plans to rehabilitate the road to DRC are underway.
